Share the Light: The Best Reflective Gear of the Season

Just because it’s starting to get dark earlier doesn’t mean you have to give up on your outdoor fun. Bike rides at dusk, early morning runs, and throwing frisbees for your pet as the stars come out can still be healthy alternatives to video games and YouTube videos.

It can also be your personal fashion statement. Are you ready to show your world that your family is active and happy? If so, you’ll enjoy these top choices for reflective gear that can help keep you and your loved ones safe while you play.

Safe Running…

Many runners add reflective tape to their shoes and clothing or wear headlamps in the dark so that people on the roads can see them. If you don’t like the idea of using tape or it doesn’t seem to bring enough attention to you in the dark, consider purchasing something like the Proviz360 reflective jacket, which is 100% reflective. Running pants and vests made out of the same type of material could work, too.

With Your Pet…

If you’re running or playing outside in the dark with your dog, you’ll want to keep him safe, too. Keep him close with a sturdy leash or harness. Something like the Melior mesh padded reflective collar can be comfortable for him to run in, and the reflective pattern means early morning drivers will be able to see him, too. You can also add reflective tape along the length of the leash or wrap it around a dog harness, if you need to.

Or Biking…

Are you a cyclist? Even if you’re taking to mountain trails, if you’re out while the sun’s down, it’s a good idea to wear reflective gear. That way, other bikers or runners can see you coming and avoid collisions. In town, cars and pedestrians will be able to watch out for you, too.

For bikes, some of the best reflective gear are wheel strips, which can be applied to the rims of your bicycle wheels. Remember that fashion statement? Reflective bicycle strips can come in a variety of colors, including green and blue, that allow people to see exactly where your bike is as you ride.

Or Just Goofing Off

If you’re playing at the park with your kiddos when the sun goes down, pull some reflective wristbands or ankle bands out of your backpack. Until it’s really dark, these fun pieces can add a great twist to active games like tag and soccer. On the way home, you can use them to make sure you’re all staying together.

One more option to consider are light-up shoes like these Lumi light-up shoes by Magnifar. Light-up shoes are available for adults and children, so you can use them while running, biking, or walking your dog as well as playing with your family.
